Why We Are “Rocking the Cure”

Why We Are “Rocking the Cure”

With the Kaye/Basman Foundation “Rock the Cure” event coming up this Friday, October 18th here is a little reminder as to why we are working so hard to raise the largest amount of donations we can.

MDA is a voluntary health agency comprised of scientists and concerned citizens aimed at combating neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association’s programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding or fees from those it serves.

Their Mission: MDA works in your community to combat neuromuscular diseases through (1) basic and applied scientific investigation, (2) local comprehensive programs of medical services and clinical care, and (3) widespread professional and public health education.

In 2010, we lost our dear friend and partner Cindy Ornish after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Cindy was a 19 year veteran of KBIC, and inspired all of us with her strength and determination.

Cindy’s last wish was for the Kaye/Bassman Foundation to allocate funds to the Baylor Cancer Program, and it is our goal this year to raise enough to have an exam room dedicated in honor of Cindy. The team at Baylor gave so much to Cindy over the years, and it is our privilege to give back to them in return.

We are thrilled that through the generosity of our supporters, we were able to name an exam room in honor of our former co-worker Cindy Ornish at the Innovative Clinical Trials Center at Baylor Charles A Sammons Cancer Center.  The team at Baylor gave so much to Cindy over the years, and it is our privilege to give back to them in return.
